Teamlead in Microsoft 365 Copilot

Ask questions about your schedule in Microsoft 365 Copilot. IT creates a Teamlead agent once, after which each colleague connects their own account.

With the AI assistant connection, you can ask Copilot questions such as "Who is working at my location tomorrow?". Copilot only reads what you yourself are allowed to see in Teamlead and cannot change anything.

What do you need?

  • An administrator has switched on the connection in Teamlead (step 1).
  • Someone who can build in Microsoft Copilot Studio with a work account.
  • A Microsoft 365 Copilot licence for every user. Copilot Chat alone is not enough; without a licence, Microsoft charges credits per question.
  • The connection address: https://mcp.app.teamlead.nl/mcp
  • You do not need an API key. Everyone logs in with their own Teamlead account, including via SSO.

Step 1: switch on the connection in Teamlead (administrator)

  1. Go to Settings > Connections and click AI assistant.
  2. Switch on Allow AI assistants and click Save.
  3. Copy the Connection address and give it to your IT colleague.

Does the card show Not available, or do you not see a connection address? Email support@teamlead.io.

Step 2: create an agent in Copilot Studio (one-off, about a quarter of an hour)

The buttons in Copilot Studio are given here in English.

  1. Open copilotstudio.microsoft.com and click Other ways to build at the bottom of the start page.
  2. Choose Agent with the label Standard. Do not choose either of the two large cards: they always use credits.
  3. Under Name, enter Teamlead, click Create and wait until the status is Ready.
  4. In Overview, under Tools, click Add tool and choose Model Context Protocol.
  5. Fill in the server details and click Create:

    • Server name: Teamlead
    • Server description: copy the text below
    • Server URL: https://mcp.app.teamlead.nl/mcp
    • Authentication: OAuth 2.0
    • Type: Dynamic discovery (already selected)

Read-only access to the signed-in user's own Teamlead account: who they are (whoami), their own schedule (get_my_schedule), the team schedule per location and day (get_team_schedule) and occupation targets versus rostered staff (get_occupation_targets). Use this for every question about schedules, shifts, working hours and occupation.

  6. Under Connection, open the drop-down list, choose Create new connection and then click Create.

  7. Log in to Teamlead in the window that opens and click Approve. Is "Credential Manager" listed as the requester? That is normal.
  8. Click Add and configure and leave the four tools switched on.
  9. In Overview, under Instructions, click Edit, paste the text below and click Save.

You are the Teamlead schedule assistant. You answer questions about schedules, shifts, working hours and staffing using the Teamlead tools (whoami, get_my_schedule, get_team_schedule, get_occupation_targets). Use whoami first if you need the user's locations or roles. Everything is read-only: you cannot change anything in Teamlead, and you say so if someone asks for it. Answer in the user's language, briefly and concretely, with dates and times written out in full. If no period is given, assume the current week. Never make up schedule data; if a tool returns nothing, say so.

  10. Click Test at the top right and ask, for example, "Who is working at my location tomorrow?".

  11. Click Publish at the top and then Publish again in the window. If you change something later, publish again.
  12. Go to Channels > Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams. Tick Make agent available in Microsoft 365 Copilot and click Add channel.
  13. Share the agent. Choose Show to my teammates and shared users and add colleagues or a group via Manage sharing, or send them the link via Copy link. Or choose Show to everyone in my org; your Microsoft 365 administrator then approves the agent in the Teams admin centre.

Step 3: connect for each colleague (two minutes)

  1. Open Copilot, choose More agents and search for Teamlead, or look under Built by your org. Click Add.
  2. Ask a question, for example "What is my schedule this week?".
  3. Click Open connection manager and then Connect next to Teamlead.
  4. Log in with your own Teamlead account and click Approve.
  5. When the connection shows Connected, click Submit.
  6. Go back to Copilot and click Retry.

What can you ask?

  • Your own schedule, up to a month per question.
  • Who is scheduled at your location on a given day.
  • The required staffing compared with who is scheduled, up to two weeks per question.
  • Your name, company, locations and skills.

The assistant cannot see leave balances, contact details or absence reasons.

Good to know

  • The assistant can only read. It never changes, adds or deletes anything.
  • Each colleague only sees what they can also see in Teamlead themselves.
  • If an administrator switches off Allow AI assistants, all existing connections stop as well.
  • Do you want to have one person's connection revoked? Contact your administrator, who will arrange it with support.
