[Leave](https://kennisbank.teamlead.io/en/for-planners-and-team-leads?hsLang=en#leave) # Viewing and adjusting leave balances ## View how many leave hours each employee has left and change the balance with an adjustment. With leave balances, you keep track of how many leave hours each employee has left. The balance grows through annual rules and goes down when you process leave. ### Requirements - The leave balance module is part of your subscription and is switched on. You set up balance types and rules under **Settings** \> **Connections** \> **Leave balances** (see [Leave types and leave balance rules](https://kennisbank.teamlead.io/en/leave-types-and-leave-balance-rules?hsLang=en)). - Only administrators can see the balances. ### Viewing balances 1. Go to **Leave balances**. For each employee, you see a column per balance type. 2. The number is the balance at the end of the selected year, in whole hours (rounded down). You can choose this year or next year. 3. Use **Show active employees only** and **Show employable employees only** if needed. 4. Click a name. On the **Leave balance** page, you see for each balance type the **Start balance**, the closing balance, all rules and adjustments, and the **Balance history** chart. ### Adjusting the balance 1. On the employee's page, click **New adjustment**. 2. Choose the **Leave balance** and the **Booking date**. Optionally link a **Leave request**. 3. Under **Action**, choose **Increase balance**, **Decrease balance** or **Set balance**. 4. Enter the number of **Hours** and a **Description** and click **Create**. To change or delete an existing adjustment, click it in the list. ### Good to know - You deduct leave in the **Adjust leave balance** step when you process a request (see [Reviewing and processing leave requests](https://kennisbank.teamlead.io/en/reviewing-and-processing-leave-requests?hsLang=en)). Teamlead then suggests the scheduled leave hours. Approving alone does not deduct anything. - If you delete a processed request, the deducted hours are returned. - **Set balance** fixes the balance on that date. Later accrual and adjustments then count as normal. - Employees cannot see their own balance in Teamlead. - You can also see the balance on the employee's profile, in the **Leave balance** block. If you work with AFAS, the balance there comes from AFAS. ### Not working? - Too many hours deducted for a full day of leave? The break is probably being counted. See [Why does a day of leave count an extra half hour?](https://kennisbank.teamlead.io/en/why-does-a-day-of-leave-count-an-extra-half-hour?hsLang=en). - **This employee is not linked to AFAS yet, so no leave balance is available.**: the email address in AFAS must be the same as the one in Teamlead (see [Connecting AFAS for leave](https://kennisbank.teamlead.io/en/connecting-afas-for-leave?hsLang=en)). - Is an AFAS balance wrong, for example 1.5 hours instead of 96 hours?
