# Swapping or changing a shift

## You cannot swap or change shifts yourself in Teamlead because your planner does that, so this is how you ask for it.

Only a planner or team lead can change the schedule. There is no swap request in Teamlead. If you want to swap or change something else about your shift, ask your planner.

### How to request a swap

1. First agree the swap with your colleague.
2. Let your planner know what you want to swap. Use the method that is usual in your team, for example a message or email.
3. Pass on these details:
     - the date and the times of both shifts;
     - which colleague you are swapping with;
     - which skills are involved;
     - whether your colleague agrees.
4. Your planner changes the schedule.
5. Check the result under **Schedule** or on your **Dashboard**. The change is also shown under **Schedule changes**.

### Other changes

- Need time off: request leave (see [Requesting leave](https://kennisbank.teamlead.io/en/requesting-leave?hsLang=en)).
- Ill: report sick according to the arrangements in your organisation. Your planner processes it in the schedule.
- A different time or skill: ask your planner, with the date and what you want to change.

### Good to know

- Your planner can send a **Schedule updated** email when saving, but this does not always happen. So check **Schedule changes** yourself (see [Viewing schedule changes](https://kennisbank.teamlead.io/en/viewing-schedule-changes?hsLang=en)).
- Do you use Teamlead in Copilot or Claude? Then your assistant can draft a swap request for you based on the schedule. You send it yourself (see [Checking your schedule via Copilot or Claude](https://kennisbank.teamlead.io/en/checking-your-schedule-via-copilot-or-claude?hsLang=en)).
