# Swapping and copying skills

## Move, copy or swap skills between employees and times, or copy a whole day from one employee to another.

Is an employee swapping with a colleague, or does the same skill also need to be assigned to someone else? You arrange that in the schedule by dragging or by copying and pasting.

### Moving or copying a skill

1. Go to **Schedule** and find the skill.
2. Drag the skill to a different time or a different employee. You see **Shift moved**.
3. Want to copy instead of move? Hold down Ctrl while dragging (Alt on a Mac). You see **Skill copied**.
4. Click **Save**.

### Swapping skills between two employees

1. Drag the skill to a spot where there is already a shift. The **Swap or copy skill?** window opens.
2. Choose what you want:
     - **Swap skill**: the two shifts swap skills. Both employees keep their own times.
     - **Copy skill**: the other employee's shift gets your skill, keeping its own times. Your shift stays as it is.
     - **Cancel**: nothing changes.
3. Click **Save**.

### Copying a whole day

1. Click in the row of the employee whose day you want to copy. A line on the left marks the active row.
2. Press Ctrl+C (Mac: Cmd+C). You see a message that the day has been copied.
3. Click in the other employee's row and press Ctrl+V (Mac: Cmd+V). That employee's whole day is replaced.
4. Click **Save**.

### Good to know

- When dragging, you can only copy a regular skill to someone who has that skill on their profile. Otherwise you see **Skill not copied**. Break, leave and illness can always be copied.
- Want to put an exact time slot on someone else's schedule? Choose the skill in **Select a skill** and paint the time slot (see [Editing the schedule](https://kennisbank.teamlead.io/en/editing-the-schedule?hsLang=en)).
- You cannot swap a whole shift including its times in one go. Edit both shifts by hand.
- Employees cannot swap shifts themselves. They ask you, and you edit the schedule.
- As long as you have not saved yet, you can undo everything with Ctrl+Z.
